One Borneo FC v Juragan

One Borneo FC started their Semester 2/2009 campaign with a 2-0 win over long-time South East Asian rival from Indonesia, Juragan (formerly known as Latansa Team).

The match that was held at Kent St Field kicked off at 3.45pm, started the way OBFC intended to end the match, with a win. Missing a few of key players due to holiday reasons, did not seem to stop OBFC from putting a show that any team would be proud of showcasing. Chances came from every angle of the pitch Juragan could imagine, right, left and centre with players from all positions pitching in to the attack including few attacks from the defense department boasting the likes of Hanis Salleh and Salleh Ghapur.

Despite creating numerous chances with the assistance of Zaim on the right and Safone on the left on the wings, OBFC struggled to convert those chances into goals. OBFC's Bruneian striking pair, Muhd Khai and Royston Roland were finding it hard to find the back of the net even though giving it 110% everytime OBFC was on the attack. Although an occasion saw Royston Roland running a perfect dribble past Juragan's right back before setting up fellow striker Muhd Khai for an easy volley, which he was unable to keep it low. One of the best chances of the game no doubt. Holding midfielder ace Amer Mahmod was also showing signs of the post-holidays blues with chances falling his way were mostly skyrocketed towards the sky rather than hitting the target.

Confidence was still running high from the players despite not breaking the deadlock as time was closing in to half time. This determination paid off as OBFC got a lucky break as a mistake from Juragan's goalkeeper in taking the goal kick resulted in it travelling as far as the feet of OBFC's number 14, Muhd Khai, who took the chance in releasing one of his signature lob shots over the keeper who was way off his line. It resulted in the first goal of the season for OBFC and Muhd Khai and relief was seen in the faces of the players.

The start second half saw number 27, Jono making his bow for the season replacing Salleh Ghapur at right back. OBFC started the second half in a similar fashion to the way they ended the first half. Safone continued to threaten from the left by sending in few crosses for the strikers to convert while Amer Mahmod and Zaim Zaini were also looking to open up their goal accounts for the new season.

Soon after, Amer Mahmod was subtituted off by Adam where the game saw Zaim being shifted to the middle pairing him with OBFC's number 32, Afif, who spent the whole afternoon with a splendid afternoon with both his partners in the middle of the park during the game. More chances were created and afternoon was proved to be an unlucky one for Royston Roland despite creating close chances for himself. A performance worthy of an applause for OBFC's number 12.

Speedy striker, Que, was also brought on for the final quarter of an hour of the game to have a run, replacing scorer of the earlier goal. This move was also thought to have Que acclimatised himself with the role given to him partnering himself with Royston Roland upfront. Despite few rusty touches from Que, he redeemed himself by converting a mix up between the Juragan's defense and snatched a late goal to seal the first victory of the new season for OBFC.

Scoreline of 2-0 and showcasing the new OBFC red and white kit proved to be a great day for the boys and hoping to performed as well, or better the next time they run out to the field this weekend.
