OBFC successfully notched another win on the road, defeating Team Fai four goals to two, ensuring a perfect start to the new season.
Still brimming brightly from last week's win against Juragan, OBFC looked composed and confident when they kicked off their second game, determined to record another win. A slightly different look squad from last week saw vice captain, Hanis Salleh playing between the post for the first half while Salleh Ghapur was shifted to the centre, pairing himself with the new young signing defender, Zai. This slight re-arrangement was done due to injury to Malaysian utility ace, Ahmad Eddie, he sustained from last week's game with Juragan. The number 19 is expected to be fit very soon. Afif was deputised to fill in the right back position for this week's game, doing so with great confidence.
This slightly different look proved to be a thorn in the side for a moment as a misjudged bounce on the ball saw Zai miscalculate the bounce of the ball and failed to put in a tackle on the opposition's striker, leaving Anis Salleh all exposed one v one. Team Fai scores. 0-1 to Team Fai. First goal conceded for the season.
Despite the early set back, OBFC still looked confident and composed, clawing their way back into the game, with returning midfielder Fahad Nasir, sporting a new squad number, 11, showcasing his exquisite touches and skills to carve his way through Team Fai's defense. Team Fai did not just stand still after their first goal and threaten to add to their first goal by putting a couple of neat passing through their left side.
But a moment that was made up vintage football and a few touches of class saw OBFC going level. Starting with a ball-winning tackle from Amer Mahmod, found a pass to Fahad Nasir's feet, whom pass the ball to Zaim with a one touch, before Zaim scrumptiously lobbed the ball just over the defenders in front of him to find OBFC striker, Royston Roland, to toe poke the ball through the helpless goalkeeper. Royston Roland opens his account for the season with the beauty and levels the score for OBFC. They were back in the game.
OBFC continued the momentum from getting the equaliser by showing composure on the ball, being able to retain the ball for a considerable amount of passes in the middle of the park. A clever dribble and back heel by Fahad Nasir saw him setting up Amer Mahmod for a perfect shot at goal just outside the box. But lack of match fitness saw Amer Mahmod swerving the ball way right past to the left of the goalkeeper.
Royston Roland again showed he was up to the task for the day, as a magnificent run down the right flank saw him went pass through the defense like a knife through butter, before finding Fahad Nasir lurking in the penalty area with an accurate pass. Fahad Nasir capped his return with OBFC with a low-drive volley to give the goalkeeper no chance of saving it all. Winger scores. 2-1 to OBFC.
But Fahad Nasir's post goal celebrations were cut short as he sustained an injury during another one of his signature dribbles, suspected to be a twisted right knee injury. The wizardry winger fell instantaneosly to the ground was clearly unable to carry on with the game. With OBFC running without a further sub on the day due to injuries, the team had to carry on with another man short. The left side was totally exposed which gave captain , the new number 23 of OBFC, Burhan Yahya a mountain of a task for the remainder of the game.
The second half saw Jai replacing Hanis Salleh between the posts to give the vice captain a run out for the day, and resumed his usual position in centre back.
Team Fai continued to threaten on number of occasion, and looked the part with creating few close chances, mostly from outside the penalty box. Seeing as situation were asking OBFC of a bit of spark of genius and speed to take a bit of the pressure off, vice captain Hanis Salleh was deployed to the middle of the park, with license to roam, seeing as the combination of Afif, Ghapur Salleh and Burhan Yahya were able to deal with virtually anything thrown at them at the time.
This switch proved to effective as OBFC looked to threaten Team Fai again, resuming their confidence in attacking before the injury incidence. But a lack of communication between the OBFC's midfields and defenders led to the equaliser for Team Fai, which again left goalkeeper one on one with the opposition. Equaliser. 2-2.
Although Jai conceded a goal then, from that point on, he proved himself worthy of the red and white stripes, showcasing a dozen of flying saves, bringing the confidence back to himself and the team.
In moments of desperation, leaders are born to step up. This is exactly what vice captain showed, running with the ball from the right, successfully dribbling through his marker before finding himself one on one with the opposition's keeper. One on one with the keeper. Hanis with the ball. He doesn't dissapoint. Ball behind in the net. 3-2 to OBFC!
Hanis Salleh again stepped up to add credit to his credentials, this time popping up on the left, before catching a handball off one of the opposition's defenders. Several players stepped up to take on the responsibilty. Hanis Salleh lays it off for the captain to do the honours. Sizing up an approach that Beckham himself would admire, Burhan Yahya curled the ball over the wall, goal-bound, before Team Fai keeper finger tip saves it to save the blushes of his team.
Cementing a solid performance, Zaim capped off his day by unleashing one of his trademark shots outside the penalty box, only having being denied by the post. Goal opener from last week, Muhd Khai, chipped in his contribution to the team's effort by setting up fellow striker, Royston Roland for his second goal of the game, after a beautiful dribble past his marker on the left side. Khai bags a trick, goes past his marker, sees Roy (go on son!), sets him up, Roy slots it in (Thank You very much!).
4-2 to OBFC!. Final whistle!
